Design Architect
Sioux City or Ankeny, Iowa
The Design Architect leads architectural design on projects delivered by an integrated structural engineering and architecture practice, translating client goals and site conditions into compelling, buildable design concepts. This role works closely with the engineering team from the earliest project phases, so design intent and structural logic develop together rather than in sequence — producing work that is architecturally distinctive and technically grounded.
The Design Architect owns design quality across a project’s lifecycle, from concept and schematic design through design development, coordinating with engineering staff, project managers, and, where applicable, clients and outside consultants.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with clients and project managers to understand project goals, requirements, and constraints.
- Develop creative and innovative architectural concepts that align with client requirements, project goals, and industry standards.
- Integrate sustainable and innovative design solutions where applicable.
- Prepare life safety plans and check drawings to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and regulations.
- Collaborate with other members of the design team to ensure integration of structural and architectural systems.
- Utilize CAD and BIM software to create and modify accurate 2D and 3D models, designs, and drawings according to project requirements and industry standards.
- Assemble construction documents, reports and specifications as required for project deliverables.
- Perform site visits and inspections to verify construction quality and resolve any issues that arise.
- Mentor junior architectural staff and contribute to the firm’s design standards and quality control process.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Licensed Architect in Iowa or ability for immediate licensure in Iowa.
- 7+ years of architectural design
- Prior experience delivering projects alongside structural engineers, or strong interest in design-build / integrated delivery
- Proficiency with Revit and at least one rendering or visualization tool (Enscape, Lumion, or similar); working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Solid understanding of building codes, life safety requirements, and how structural systems shape architectural form
- Strong graphic and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present design concepts clearly to clients and non-designers
- Ability to manage multiple design phases at once and work well under project deadlines
- NCARB certification is a plus but not required
CAD/BIM Technician

- Review CAD/BIM models, drawings, and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project standards and specifications.
- Conduct clash detection, coordinate and resolve conflicts, and perform quality checks to maintain high-quality deliverables.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associates Drafting Degree in Architectural Technology or applicable experience.
- 2+ years of architectural or structural drafting experience.
