Holcomb Grain Facility

Aerial view of the expanded grain storage facility in Jefferson, Iowa, featuring multiple silos, including a 150-foot-tall slipform concrete structure and two 48-foot diameter grain storage silos, highlighting the agricultural sector's infrastructure development.

The Holcomb grain facility is a new shuttle train unloading and loading operation located in Holcomb, KS, developed for Garden City Co-op. The facility features over 1 million bushels of storage capacity with high-speed rail logistics infrastructure designed to maximize efficiency for farmer-members.

KC Engineering provided structural engineering services and life-safety code review for this project, delivered through a joint venture between Empire Ag and Buresh Building Systems.

Scope of Services

  • Structural engineering design for a 150-foot-tall slipform concrete structure with over 1 million
    bushels of storage capacity
  • Design of 92-foot-tall concrete slip-formed structure housing 80,000 BPH bulk weigher and
screenings bin over rail loadout tunnel
  • Deep foundation design for concrete structures
  • Foundation systems for pre-engineered metal buildings
  • Railroad coordination for a loop track system, enabling efficient railcar loading and unloading
  • Life-safety code compliance review
  • Construction support services throughout execution
